Passing Standards & Promotions

The passing in the subject shall be based on the aggregate of marks of the First and Second Term examinations taken together, or marks of the first term examination and the additional examination taken together or marks of the second term examination and the additional examination taken together.

The appearance at both term examinations, tutorials evaluation and the practical examination shall be compulsory.

In order to pass in a subject a student must secure

  1. A minimum of 35% marks in each subject.
  2. In a subject having more than one paper, a minimum f 20% marks in each paper and a minimum of 35% marks in aggregate
  3. In case of subjects with practical, a minimum of 35% in practical separately
  4. In the subject of Foundation Course paper II and Advertising where Project is one of the components of evaluation, the term end examination will be for 50 marks and of two hours duration. For the purpose of results, the marks will be converted out of 40 marks per term. INDIVIDUAL PASSING IN PROJECT IS COMPULSORY (BY SECURING 7 MARKS OUT OF 20). HOWEVER, THE MARKS SCORED IN THEORY AND PROJECT TOGETHER TO BE TAKEN AS ONE HEAD OF PASSING IN THE SUBJECT.

Note : For the students of F.Y.B.Com.:

  1. In the subject of Foundation Course paper I (at F.Y.B.Com.) and Paper II (at S.Y.B.Com.), the term end examination is out of 50 marks for two hours duration and for maximum 50 marks. For the purpose of results, the marks will be converted out of 40 marks per term. INDIVIDUAL PASSING IN PROJECT HEAD WITH 7 MARKS OUT OF 20 IS COMPULSORY. HOWEVER, THE MARKS SCORED IN THEORY AND PROJECT TOGETHER TO BE TAKEN AS ONE HEAD OF PASSING IN THE SUBJECT.
  2. In the subject of BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS at F.Y.B.Com., each term end examination will be of 40 marks and tutorials of 20 marks which could be conducted term wise, allocating 10 marks each. STUDENTS WHO FAIL TO SUBMIT THE TUTORIAL WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO APPEAR FOR THE EXAMINATION.
  3. In the subject of MATHEMATICAL & STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES at F.Y.B.Com., at least TWO tutorial tests will be conducted per term during the tutorial classes. The marks of the tutorial tests will be added and converted to 10 marks. Each of the two term end examination will be of 50 marks to be converted to 45 marks.

Exemption :An unsuccessful candidate who obtains the minimum percentage of marks prescribed for passing in a subject/ practical may, at his/her option be exempted from appearing in that subject/practical at his/her subsequent appearance and will be declared to have passed the whole examination on his/her passing in the remaining subjects practical in which he/she has failed.

Ex-Students : Candidate who is declared failed at the examination or who is allowed to keep terms for the higher class shall appear as Ex-students for the annual examination held by their respective colleges.

Annual Examination for Failed / ATKT Students :A student who has failed or is allowed to keep terms for higher class is required to appear at this examination.

Amendment in the ATKT Rules for the Students of F.Y.B.Com & S.Y.B.Com Classes:

As per the University circular no. UG/311 of 1998, the Management Council has amended ordinances 0.2156B, 2166_B and 2221_B relating to the grant of A.T.K.T. at the Undergraduate courses i.e. F.Y.B.Com., S.Y.B.Com. and T.Y.B.Com. Examination under the revised pattern:

Ordinance relating to the Second year B.Com. Examination leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Commerce B.Com.) O. 2166-B:

0-2166B: A candidate for being eligible for admissions to the Second Year of the B.Com. Course commencing from June 1999 and thereafter must have either (i) kept terms for the First Year B.Com. Course in the academic year commencing from June 1998 or thereafter and have passed First year B.Com. Examination or (ii) have kept terms for the First year B.Com. in the academic year commencing from June 1998 or thereafter failed in not more than TWO heads of passing at the First Year B.Com. Examination in which case he will be required to appear for the First year B.Com. examination in the heads in which he has failed either previously or simultaneously with the Second Year Examination and his result of the Second Year B.Com. Examination will not be declared unless he has passed in the heads in which he has failed at the First year Examinations.

Ordinance relating to the Third year B.Com. Examination leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Commerce B.Com.) O. 2221 -B:

0-2221B: A candidate for being eligible for admissions to the Third Year of the B.Com. Course commencing from June 2000 and thereafter must have either (i) passed the First Year and Second Year Examination or (ii) passed the First Year B.Com. Examination and failed in not more than TWO heads of passing at the Second Year B.Com. Examination in which case he will be required to appear for the Second year B.Com. examination in the heads in which he has failed either previously or simultaneously with the Third Year Examination and his result of the Third Year B.Com. Examination will not be declared unless he has passed in the heads in which he has failed at the Second year Examinations.

Further, a candidate who has failed at the First Year B.Com. Examination in not more than two heads of passing and has passed in all heads of passing and has obtained the minimum percentage of marks for passing in all the subjects prescribed for the Second Year B.Com. Examination but whose result has not been declared will be permitted to keep terms and appear for the THIRD year examination, but such a candidate will not be declared to have passed the THIRD year B.Com. Examination unless he has passed in the concerned head/s of the First year B.Com. Examination.

APPLICABLE TO REGULAR STUDENTS ADMITTED TO THE F.Y.B.Com. CLASS FROM THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2011-2012 AND TO BE IMPLEMENTED FOR THE REGULAR STUDENTS OF S.Y.B. Com. CLASS FROM THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012-2013 AND TO THE REGULAR STUDENTS OF THE T.Y.B. Com. CLASS FROM THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2013-2014.


STANDARD OF PASSING


The learners to pass a course shall have to obtain a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate for each course where the course consists of Internal Assessment & Semester End Examination. The learners shall obtain minimum of 40% marks (i.e. 16 out of 40) in the Internal Assessment and 40% marks in Semester End Examination (i.e. 24 Out of 60) separately, to pass the course and minimum of Grade E in the project component, wherever applicable to pass a particular semester. A learner will be said to have passed the course if the learner passes the Internal Assessment & Semester End Examination together.


CLASS TEST OR ASSIGNMENT FOR INTERNAL ASSESSMENT FOR COURSES WITHOUT PRACTICAL:

      1. A learner who is absent for the two class test and the assignment will be declared fail in the Internal Assessment Scheme.
      2. A learner who is absent for the two class tests and has appeared for the assignment will be allowed to appear for the additional class test of 10 marks. However, his marks for the class test will be taken as out of 20 However, his marks for the class tests will be taken as out of 20 i.e. he/she will forfeit his/her 10 marks of one class test (without conversion i.e. if the learner gets 4/10 marks in his additional class test , his/her marks for the class tests will be taken as 4/20) and internal assessment will be calculated as out of 40 marks and not 30 marks.
      3. A learner who has appeared for both the class test but remains absent for the assignment will be allowed to appear for the additional assignment and the internal assessment will be calculated as out of 40 marks.
      4. A learners who is absent for one of the two class tests/assignment as the case may be the learner will be allowed to appear for one additional class test/one additional assignment  and the internal assessment will be calculated as out of 40 marks.

CLASS TEST OR ASSIGNMENT FOR INTERNAL ASSESSMENT FOR COURSES WITH PRACTICALS:

      1. A learner who is absent for the Semester End Practical Examination and the assignment/project will be declared fail in the Internal Assessment Scheme.
      2. A learner who is absent for the Semester End Practical Examination and has appeared for the assignment will be awarded marks for the Journal (out of 5 marks) & Viva Voce (out of 5 marks) component of the Semester End Examination. Thus he will be evaluated for 10 marks instead of 20 marks and will lose the 10 marks for the Laboratory work. However, his marks for the Semester End Practical Examination will be taken as out of 20 (without conversion i.e. if the learner gets 4/10 marks in for Journal & Viva Voce, his/her marks for the Semester End Practical Examination will be taken as 4/20) and internal assessment will be calculated as out of 40 marks and not 30 marks.
      3. A learner who has appeared for Semester End Practical Examination but remains absent for the assignment will be allowed to appear for the additional assignment and the internal assessment will be calculated as out of 40 marks.

The PERFORMANCE GRADING of the learners shall be on the SEVEN point ranking system as under:

The performance grading shall be based on the aggregate performance of Internal Assessment and Semester End Examination.


CARRY FORWARD OF THE MARKS IN CASE IF THE LEARNER FAILS IN ONE OR MORE COURSES:

  1. A learner who passes in the Internal Examination but fails in the Semester End Examination of the course shall reappear for the Semester End Examination of that course. However his/her marks of the Internal Examinations shall be carried over and he/she shall be entitled for grade obtained by him/her on passing.
  2. A learner who passes in the Semester End Examination but fails in the Internal Assessment of the course shall reappear for the Internal Examination of that course. However his/her marks of the Semester End Examination shall be carried over and he/she shall be entitled for grade obtained by him/her on passing.
  3. a) For Courses without practical.
    In case of learner who is reappearing for the Internal Examination, the examination  will consist of one project of 40 marks which will be divided into 20 marks for the documentation of the project, 10 marks for the presentation and 10 marks for the Viva Voce and the interaction.


    b) For Courses with practical.
    In case of learner who is reappearing for the Internal Examination for subjects with Practical, the examinations will consist of practical examination of 40 marks which will be divided into 20 marks for the machine work / laboratory work, 10 marks for the Viva Voce Examination and 10 marks for the Journal.

ALLOWED TO KEEP TERMS (ATKT):

  1. Eligibility criterion for admission from Sem. I to Sem. II:A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester II irrespective of number of courses of failure in the Semester I.
  2. Eligibility criterion for admission from Sem. II to Sem. III:A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester III if he/she passes each of Semester I and Semester II
  3. OR

    A learner fails in not more than two courses of Semester I and Semester II taken together.

  4. Eligibility criterion for admission from Sem. III to Sem. IV:A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester IV irrespective of number of courses of failure in Semester III.  However, the learner has to pass each of Semester I and Semester II in order to appear for Semester IV.
  5. Eligibility criterion for admission from Sem. IV to Sem. V:A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester V if he/she passes  Semester I, Semester II, Semester III and Semester IV
  6. OR

    A learner shall pass Semester I and Semester II and fails in not more than two courses of Semester III and Semester IV taken together.

  7. Eligibility criterion for admission from Sem. V to Sem. VI: A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester VI irrespective of number of courses of failure in the Semester V.
  8. The learner can appear for the semester VI examination but the result of Semester VI shall be kept in abeyance until the learner passes each of Semester I, Semester II, Semester III, Semester IV and Semester V.

EVALUATION OF THE PROJECT

  1. A learner who PASSES IN ALL THE COURSES BUT DOES NOT secures minimum grade of E in project as applicable has to resubmit a fresh project for evaluation till he/she secures a minimum of grade E. His/her marks in the theory Courses that the learner has passed will be carried forward and he/she shall be entitled for grade obtained by him/her on passing.
  2. The evaluation of project and viva-voce examination shall be by awarding grade in the seven point scale as given in the grade point table.
  3. A learner shall have to obtain minimum of Grade “E” (or its equivalent marks) in project evaluation and viva voce taken together.
